Choosing Excellence is an enrichment program that strives to enhance the educational experience of middle and high school students. Through individual and group sessions students are given the opportunity to grow in the areas of leadership and life skills, strengthen academic performance, engage in community service, and receive instruction on valuavle learning strategies fitting their individual needs.
Individual sessions focus on areas such as goal setting, organization, conversation, nutrition, money management, job interview skills, habits, leadership, learning strategies. The two monthly sessions consist of etiquette training and community service. Students who complete their program will be given the opportunity to participate in OU Day as a reward for their hard work!

Shannon Selmon Carter
EDUCATOR | MOTIVATOR
Shannon is the daughter of Dewey and Kathryn Selmon. As a young child he parents laid a firm foundation of faith, hard work, and service to others. Shannon graduated valedictorian from Norman Hish School in 1998.
Shannon was awaded a full basketball scholarship and played four seasons under Coahc Sherri Coale at the University of Oklahoma. She served as team captian and participated in the women’s NCAA Final Four in San Antonio in 2002. Shannon graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Human Relations.
Since graduating Shannon has served as a teacher, motivational speaker, coach, and the Director of the Shine Foundation, a non-profit agency that works with Liberian orphans. Shannon and her husband Vince reside in Lawton with their three children Olivia, Kai, and Knox.
